Gordon Price is the Director of the City Program at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, BC and Adjunct Professor in the School of Community and Regional Planning at the University of British Columbia. Mr. Price is a regular lecturer on transportation and land use for the City of Portland, OR and Portland State University. He has written several extensive essays on Vancouver and transportation and land use issues. In 2002, he finished his sixth term as a City Councilor in Vancouver, BC. Mr. Price also served on the Board of the Greater Vancouver Regional District and was appointed to the first Board of the Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority in 1999.

Topic: “The Vancouver Recipe: How To Increase Density and Reduce Fat.” In the last decade, Vancouver has increased the amount of residential development in its urban core more than any other city in North America. And yet, at the same time, it has seen a drop in the number of moving vehicles and a dramatic increase in walking and cycling. This presentation illustrates how that was achieved, and what lessons were learned in the process. Along with examples from other cities using this approach, Mr. Price will present ideas for both urban and suburban areas.
