Black Hill Park Site of Cultural Celebration

Sunday, April 7, 2002

Black Hill Regional Park on West Old Baltimore Road and Lake Ridge Drive, in Boyds, Maryland will be a site where an important day in the Iranian New Year – “Sizdeh Bedar” - will be celebrated all day on Sunday, April 7.  Because of this event’s popularity, The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s Montgomery County Department of Park and Planning is encouraging participants to park at Germantown Campus of Montgomery College, 20200 Observation Drive, Germantown for $15 per car and take a free Ride-On shuttle bus throughout the day to Black Hill Regional Park.  Some of the buses are handicapped accessible.   Parking at Black Hill will only be available prior to 8 a.m. and will be $25 per car.  After that time, West Old Baltimore Road will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic.  No pets are allowed at the park during this event.  To get to the college parking lot, take I-270 to exit 15 (Rt. 118 North).  Turn right at the first traffic light onto Observation Drive.  Those attending can tune to 590 on the AM radio dial for traffic updates about park road closings and traffic advisories.

This celebration is sponsored by the House of Iran in cooperation with The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and Montgomery County.  For more information, call (301) 650-2890 or visit M-NCPPC’s website or the House of Iran’s website at www.houseofiran.org.

Black Hill Regional Park Master Plan

Public Hearing Continued on Thursday, May 2, 2002

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s (M-NCPPC) Montgomery County Planning Board will continue the public hearing on the Black Hill Regional Park Master Plan, Thursday, May 2, 2002 at the Montgomery County Regional Office Auditorium, 8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland.

During the Montgomery County Planning Board’s January 2000 public hearing on the proposed Master Plan for Black Hill Regional Park, members of the community voiced their concern for a second roadway entrance to the Park.  The Planning Board deferred action on the Master Plan pending the completion of a feasibility study for a second roadway entrance.  The public is invited to comment on the feasibility study, which addresses three “build” options for the roadway along with the “no-build” option.  The project site is located between Crystal Rock Drive and Lake Ridge Drive, which is currently the primary entrance into the Park located at 13440 West Old Baltimore Road, Boyds.

Copies of the Master Plan and the Feasibility Study report are available at the Germantown Library located in the Upcounty Government Services Center, 12900 Middlebrook Road, Germantown, Maryland.  To provide written input on the proposal, comments may be addressed to:  Kathleen Dearstine, M-NCPPC, Parkside Headquarters, 9500 Brunett Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20901.  For more information, call Kathy Dearstine, (301) 650-2883, or e-mail Kathy.Dearstine@mncppc-mc.org.

An approximate time for the hearing will be posted on the Commission’s website after April 26. Click on weekly agenda.
